Social studies, the study of people in relation to each other and to their world, is one of the most interesting and much-anticipated subjects in our school. Since the majority of the topics discussed are essentially about us, our culture, heritage, history, government, economics, geography, politics, ecology, philosophy, law, etc. in relation to others on the African continent and abroad, it often fosters a lot of fun filled debate and discussions, juxtaposing concepts being taught with individual student experiences, norms and beliefs.
The curriculum incorporates interactive activities that help students gain a better handle on historical concepts, remember important details about geography and history all done within an age-appropriate context. This subject also presents many opportunities for the student to engage in independent as well as group research, key skills needed for success in secondary school and beyond.
